Performances: March 28 – April 2 at 8 p.m.
Second Avenue Dance Company/2012 (SADC) will present its annual spring concert series this year for six performances beginning March 28 and running through April 2. The spring series will feature the new works of four noted guest choreographers—Aszure Barton, Seán Curran, Sydney Skybetter, and Kate Weare. SADC’s spring program also features work, on a rotating basis, choreographed by students who are enrolled in the Department of Dance in the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University.
Featured will be the world premieres of: Aszure Barton’s Rookery, a work containing intriguing avian behavior clothed in dresses and suits; Alumnus Seán Curran’s Oh sleep, why dost thou leave me?, a witty, romantic, and classical romp set to music by Handel; Sydney Skybetter’s Little Boy, a dance piece of sweeping, latticed movement that addresses survival; and Kate Weare’s Pura Vida, which is an inventive, lush, and sensual work with Latin overtones.
The student choreographers, with highly individualized works, are Matthew Flatley, Mariel Lugosch-Ecker, Allison Schieler, and Austin Tyson.
The six-performance series opens Wed., Mar. 28 and runs through Mon., Apr. 2, 2012. Curtain is 8 p.m. Admission is $10; seniors $5 and students with ID are free. All proceeds benefit the Tisch Dance Scholarship Fund. Performances will take place in the Fifth Floor Theatre, 111 Second Avenue, New York City.
