Creative Writing Program to Feature Pulitzer Winner Natasha Trethewey, Chris Adrian, and Others in March

The New York University Creative Writing Program’s Spring 2012 Reading Series continues with events featuring Chris Adrian (March 22), Natasha Trethewey, who won the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 2007 (March 23), and others. All events are held in the program’s Greenwich Village home, the Lillian Vernon Creative Writers House at 58 W. 10th Street, unless otherwise noted. Subways: F, L, M (14th Street/6th Avenue); 1 (Christopher Street); A, B, C, D, E, F, M (West 4th Street). All events are free and open to the public. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. Poetry Reading: Nell Regan
Dublin-based poet Nell Regan reads from her most recent collection, Bound for Home (Syracuse University Press, 2011), and her forthcoming volume, due out in 2012. The New Salon: Meghan O’Rourke in Conversation with Deborah Landau
Meghan O’Rourke, who teaches in the NYU Creative Writing Program, reads and discusses poems from her new collection, Once (W. W. Norton, 2011). The event is co-sponsored with the Poetry Society of America.

Poetry Reading: Cave Canem Fellows
Featuring readings from poetry books newly published by Cave Canem Fellows Alan W. King (Drift, Willow Books, 2012), Evie Shockley (the new black, Wesleyan, 2011), and Demetrice Anntía Worley (Tongues in My Mouth, Main Street Rag Publishing, 2011). The event is co-sponsored with the Cave Canem Foundation.

The New Salon: Chris Adrian in Conversation with Darin Strauss
Selected by the New Yorker as one of the best young writers in America, Chris Adrian is the author of several books, including his recent novel, The Great Night (Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 2011).

Poem as World / World as Poem: Natasha Trethewey and Yuyutsu Ram Dass Sharma
Pulitzer Prize-winner Natasha Trethewey’s fourth collection of poetry, Thrall, is forthcoming from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt in the fall of 2012. Born in Nakodar, Punjab, poet and translator Yuyutsu Ram Dass Sharma is the author of many books, including Hunger of Our Huddled Huts and Other Poems (Nirala Publications, 2011). The event is co-sponsored with the NYU Office for International Students and Scholars.

The New Salon: Glyn Maxwell in Conversation with Belinda McKeon
British author Glyn Maxwell reads and discusses poems from his new book, One Thousand Nights and Counting: Selected Poems (Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 2011). The event is co-sponsored with the Poetry Society of America.

“West 10th” Launch Reading: With Guest Poet Michael Dickman
The evening features readings by guest poet Michael Dickman and student contributors to West 10th, the literary journal produced by undergraduate students in the NYU Creative Writing Program.
