Kanbar Institute’s Spike Lee and Sam Pollard Win Peabody Award


The 70th Annual Peabody Awards were announced and among the winners for the best electronic media of 2010 was the documentary If God Is Willing And Da Creek Don’t Rise (HBO); producers, Sam Pollard, professor in the Undergraduate Film & TV division, and Spike Lee (’82/’98), alumnus and artistic director of the Graduate Film division; directed by Spike Lee.

The 70th Annual Peabody Awards were announced and among the winners for the best electronic media of 2010 was the documentary If God Is Willing And Da Creek Don’t Rise (HBO); producers, Sam Pollard, professor in the Undergraduate Film & TV division, and Spike Lee (’82/’98), alumnus and artistic director of the Graduate Film division; directed by Spike Lee.

Lee’s team checks up on New Orleans five years after Katrina hit and the levees broke and documents the city’s successes and failures in a video patchwork by turns beautiful, depressing and optimistic.

A record 39 recipients of the 70th Annual Peabody Awards were announced.  The winners were chosen by the Peabody board as the best in electronic media for the year 2010 and announced March 31.  The 70th annual Peabody Awards ceremony will take place May 23, 2011 at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City.
