October 26, 2011

Featured Speaker: Virginia P. Louloudes, Alliance of Resident Theatres/New York

Advocates for Cultural Engagement (ACE), an arts and culture advocacy group of graduate students at New York University’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education and Human Development, has announced the inaugural event of its new Campaigning for Culture seminar series is Nov. 11 at 6:30 p.m.  The featured speaker will be Virginia Louloudes, executive director of A.R.T./New York (Alliance of Resident Theatres) since 1991 and a leading advocate for the nonprofit theatre community.

Campaigning for Culture with Virginia P. Louloudes will take place Friday, Nov, 11 from 6:30 to 7:30pm in the Einstein Auditorium of NYU’s Barney Building, 34 Stuyvesant Street, New York City. A reception will follow the talk.  The event is free and open to the public, but reservations are required.  RSVP: nyu.artsadvocates@gmail.com.

Louloudes has lead A.R.T./New York, a 300 member theatre group, through challenging times, addressed issues in the field, and championed members to have a collective voice in the city. Through innovative solutions, A.R.T./New York has provided affordable office and rehearsal space, technical assistance, and the nation’s only revolving loan fund for real estate.

ACE’s Campaigning for Culture series is to provide an opportunity for arts and culture administrators and practitioners to directly engage arts advocates in New York City, address current challenges in the field, and connect with opportunities for engagement with legislators on a local, state, and federal level. The seminars foster an open forum for exchange of thoughts and ideas concerning advocacy for the arts with experts in the field.
