Afternoon-long Series of Events, Focused on the Oboe and Bassoon, to Honor Loren Glickman, World-Renowned Bassoonist, Composer, and Teacher
NYU Steinhardt’s Department of Music and Performing Arts program will present the 8th annual Double Reed Day on Sunday, October 16, 2011. The afternoon series of events, focusing on the oboe and bassoon, will culminate in a performance by New York University faculty, students, and Double Reed Day (DRD) participants at 6:30 p.m. in the Frederick Loewe Theatre, located at 35 West 4th Street in New York City. The concert is free and open to the public. This year’s DRD honoree is the world- renowned bassoonist, performer, and teacher Loren Glickman.
The DRD concert will feature the premier of selected movements from composer Laura Kaminsky’s new multimedia work Horizon Lines. It will be performed by O₃XYGEN–a trio featuring NYU faculty members Matt Sullivan (oboe) and Dan Shelly (bassoon), along with Peggy Kampmeier (piano). Other works to be performed include selected chamber works for bassoons by Loren Glickman, performed by the Glickman Ensemble. Also featured will be Threeds—a trio of two oboes and English horn. The concert will conclude with a performance of GF Handel’s Water Music by all the DRD oboists and bassoonists participating in the day.
The 8th annual Double Reed Day (DRD) gets underway at noon and will include workshops, lectures, interviews, and coaching session aimed at talented high-school and college-age musicians along with their teachers.
