The Humanities Initiative at New York University will host Duke University English Professor Cathy Davidson for a public lecture, “The Future of Learning,” on Tuesday, September 13, 5 p.m. at 20 Cooper Square, 5th Floor (between 5th and 6th Streets).

The event is free and open to the public. RSVP is required by clicking here. For more information, call 212.998.2187 or email info@humanitiesinitiative.org. (Subways: 6, Astor Place; N, R, 8th Street)

The lecture will draw from Davidson’s recently published Now You See It: How the Brain Science of Attention Will Transform the Way We Live, Work, and Learn (Viking Press, 2011). The work shows how “attention blindness” has produced one of our society’s greatest challenges: while we’ve all acknowledged the great changes of the digital age, most of us still operate in work and educational environments designed for the last century.

Davidson is Ruth F. DeVarney Professor of English and John Hope Franklin Humanities Institute Professor of Interdisciplinary Studies at Duke.
