Free Writing Courses from NYU-SCPS Faculty at NYU Bookstore—June 14, July 12

The Department of Humanities, Arts, and Writing at NYU’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies invites all new and experienced writers to its series of creative writing classes at the NYU Bookstore (between Waverly Place and Washington Place). Subways: N, R (8th Street); 6 (Astor Place).

The next installments of the series, which began in February, will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on both Tuesday, June 14 and Tuesday, July 12. Both events are free and open to the public. For more information, contact Adam Sexton at 212.998.7279 or adam.sexton@nyu.edu.

Master teachers from the Writing Program at SCPS will be lecturing on a range of writing skills, followed by writing exercises and discussion. Afterwards, instructors will sign copies of their books and offer additional advice to aspiring writers. 

Tuesday June 14, 6:30-8 p.m.

“Anatomy of the Poem”

The event will feature poet and author Priscilla Becker, whose works include Stories That Listen and Internal West, which won the Paris Review book prize. Her poems have been published in The Nation, American Poetry Review, Fence, among other publications.

Tuesday July 12, 6:30-8 p.m.

“What Makes You Such an Expert? Getting Published by Writing What You Know”

The event will feature author Jamie Cat Callan, whose written The Writer’s Toolbox and Bonjour, Happiness! Her other works have been published in the New York Times, Story, the Missouri Review, and elsewhere.
