This year, NYU's Earth Day celebrations were too much to fit into just one week leading up to April 22, so starting on April 11 there will be more than two dozen extraordinary ways to connect with your environment and your community, including panel discussions, volunteer opportunities, film screenings — all a part of this annual celebration of NYU's commitment to sustainability. | For more details and to RSVP follow this link

Cooling the Planet, Feeding the World—Monday, April 18, 2011

Anna Lappé is a national bestselling author and sought-after public speaker, respected for her work on sustainability, food politics, globalization, and social change. In her latest book,Diet for a Hot Planet: The Climate Crisis at the End of Your Fork and What You Can Do About It (Bloomsbury, March 2010), Anna deftly explains the links between today's global food system and climate change, and offers ideas and inspiration for making sustainable food choices that can provide a catalyst for transforming the environment. Mia MacDonald will moderate the panel, and panelists include Anna Lappé, Anim Steel of the Real Food Challenge, Melissa Mark-Viverito of the NYC Council, and Angelines Moncha Alba Lamb of Slow Food USA.


Mary Evelyn Tucker Lecture and Journey of the Universe Film Screening—Thursday, April 21, 2011

The Journey of the Universe project is a collaboration of Brian Swimme and Executive Producers Mary Evelyn Tucker and John Grim. This project includes a film, a book, and an educational DVD series, which will be available in June 2011. Inspired by Thomas Berry, a cultural historian who wrote The Universe Story with Swimme, the Journey of the Universe draws on the latest scientific knowledge to tell the story of cosmic and Earth evolution. It aims to inspire a new and closer relationship with Earth in a period of growing environmental and social crisis. Co-sponsored by NYU Earth Matters! club, NYU Office of Sustainability,NYU Religious Studies Program, and the Islamic Center at NYU.

13th Annual Earth Day Street Fair-- Friday, April 22, 2011

Washington Place (between Greene Street and Washington Square East)
11:00 AM – 3:00 PM

We're here every year! Come out and celebrate Earth Day with us once more right in the middle of campus. We're bringing together local artists and musicians, green organizations and demonstrations, interactive booths, and food. Come out to chill, learn about awesome environmental initiatives/projects, and grab some free dosas from the famous NY Dosascart!


Earth Day Banquet—Friday, April 22, 2011

Come enjoy a delicious vegetarian dinner with a panel presentation on the multi-faceted issue of food justice at our Earth Day Banquet. We will have a panel presentation fromDennis Derryck, president of Corbin Hill Road Farms and Chair of WE ACT, alongside other prominent environmental food experts. We encourage attendees to bring their own plates, utensils, and cups! 


Swap-a-Palooza—Saturday, April 23, 2011

Kimmel Center 400 Series and Eisner and Lubin Auditorium
2:00 PM – 6:00 PM

Our third annual clothing Swap is focused on reducing your environmental impact through exchanging gently used clothes and accessories instead of buying new things. Bring a bag of clothes to swap and leave with something new! The Swap will also feature awesome local artists at design stations helping you to re-create old items, as well as some acoustic music.
