NYU and UAW Reach Agreement on New Contract for Adjunct Faculty

March 31, 2011
N-326, 2010-11

Statement by NYU Spokesman John Beckman

“NYU is very pleased that it has reached a tentative agreement with the UAW on a new six-year contract for adjunct faculty.  We believe this contract achieves the important goal we had in mind from the start: that we arrive at a fair contract that properly honors the important contributions these faculty members make to our community.
“This contract provides for compensation that ensures that NYU will continue to be able to recruit the highest-quality adjunct faculty, and addresses issues that were important to the union in the areas of job security and retirement.
“The University is grateful to all the members of the bargaining teams from both sides for the many hours they put in to ensure we had this successful outcome.  And NYU would also like to thank Martin Scheinman, whose work as a mediator was so helpful to this successful outcome.
“We look forward to the ratifying vote by the union membership.”
