Time has named Twitter feeds by New York University Professors Marion Nestle and Nouriel Roubini as two of the 140 Twitter feeds “that are shaping the conversation,” the magazine announced. The list also includes Lady Gaga, Starbucks, Newark Mayor Cory Booker, former vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin, Boston Celtics Center Shaquille O’Neal, and comedian Conan O’Brien.
Nestle (@marionnestle), the Paulette Goddard Professor in the Department of Nutrition, Food Studies, and Public Health at NYU’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development, is the author of: Food Politics: How the Food Industry Influences Nutrition and Health (revised edition, 2007); Safe Food: The Politics of Food Safety (revised edition, 2010); What to Eat (2006); Pet Food Politics: The Chihuahua in the Coal Mine (2008); and Feed Your Pet Right (2010), co-authored with Malden Nesheim. Food Politics captured three prestigious awards after its publication in 2002: the James Beard Literary Award, the Association of American Publishers Award for Public Health, and the Harry Chapin Media Award for Best Book. Nestle is currently writing a book with Nesheim about calories for University of California Press.
Roubini (@Nouriel), a professor in NYU’s Stern School of Business, received acclaim for his bearish forecast of the U.S. and world economies and for predicting the subprime crisis well in advance of many economists. His published works include: Crisis Economics: A Crash Course in the Future of Finance (2010); Bailouts or Bail-ins? Responding to Financial Crises in Emerging Economies (2004); and Political Cycles and the Macroeconomy (1997), all of which were co-authored volumes. Under the Clinton Administration, Roubini served as senior economist for international affairs at the White House Council of Economic Advisors and senior advisor to the under secretary for international affairs at the U.S. Treasury Department. Roubini has been a long-time consultant to the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, and other private and public institutions. Roubini is the co-founder and chairman of Roubini Global Economics, an independent, global macroeconomic and market strategy research firm.
