Degree Recipients Also Include Music Industry Titan Clive Davis, Nursing Education Leader Claire Fagin, and Nobel Scientist Ada Yonath
9/11 and BP Fund Administrator Kenneth Feinberg to Receive Gallatin Medal; Restaurateur Danny Meyer to Receive Rudin Award
NYU President John Sexton and Board of Trustees Chairman Martin Lipton today announced the names of those to be honored at the University’s 179th Commencement Exercises, which will be held Wednesday, May 18th, in Yankee Stadium.
President Bill Clinton – Founder of the William J. Clinton Foundation and 42nd President of the United States – will address the graduates and guests. President Clinton will receive a Doctor of Laws degree, honoris causa, at the ceremony.
This year’s other recipients of honorary doctorates are:
- Clive Jay Davis – Chief Creative Officer of Sony Music Entertainment, record producer, music industry leader, and NYU alumnus – will receive a Doctor of Fine Arts degree, honoris causa.
- Claire Mintzer Fagin – Dean Emeritus and Professor Emeritus at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing – will receive a Doctor of Science degree, honoris causa.
- Ada E. Yonath – Winner of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry, member of the National Academy of Sciences, the Martin S. and Helen Kimmel Professor of Structural Biology at the Weizmann Institute of Science, and Director of the Kimmelman Center for Biomolecular Structure and Assembly – will receive a Doctor of Science degree, honoris causa.
The “Albert Gallatin Medal for Outstanding Contributions to Society” will be presented to lawyer, mediator, administrator of the 9/11 and BP funds, and NYU Law School alumnus Kenneth Feinberg.
The “Lewis Rudin Award for Exemplary Service to New York City” will be presented to acclaimed New York restaurateur Danny Meyer.
