Note to assignment editors: The event will feature inspiring testimonials to Jhumki Basu, a science educator and activist who died of cancer in 2008 at age 31. The event will also feature, at 4 p.m., a science fair expo featuring original research by high school students from NYC public schools as well as a display of materials from NASA shuttle missions.

New York University will host the “Science Education Innovators Day” on Sunday, January 24 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., bringing together teachers, educators, researchers, policymakers, and science enthusiasts to launch the new Jhumki Basu Foundation and its initiatives to bring science alive for children and youth through innovative teaching and outreach. The symposium will be held at the Helen and Martin Kimmel Center for Student Life, 60 Washington Square South (at LaGuardia Place) in Greenwich Village. [Subways: A, C, D, E, F to West 4th Street].
