NICHE hospital geriatric care innovations described

NICHE (Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders), announces the launch of a series that profiles innovations in geriatric care at NICHE designated hospitals. The series, called “Solutions,” is targeted at the NICHE community and other audiences in an effort to help healthcare professionals improve the care of older adult hospital patients.

The innovations are based on the successful application of best practices contained in NICHE Clinical Improvement Models and other NICHE resources. NICHE trained hospital nurses, other clinicians, and administrators author the stories. Current “Solutions” deal with delirium prevention and management, medication safety, surgical observation units, emergency department care of older adults, and more.

Marie Boltz, PhD, RN, GNP-BC and NICHE practice director, is editor of the series. The "Solutions" stories are published on a continuing basis, and are available in hardcopy format and as downloads on the NICHE website. To view the NICHE Solutions series, go to http://www.nicheprogram.org/join-solutions.

About NICHE: NICHE is a national organization designed to help hospitals improve the care of older adults. NICHE hospitals seek to create an environment where older adult patients receive care that results in better outcomes. This climate of success encourages patients and their families to seek NICHE designated hospitals for their medical needs. The NICHE Network now numbers nearly 300 hospitals throughout North America.

NICHE is a program of The Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing at NYU College of Nursing funded in part with generous support from Atlantic Philanthropies and The John A. Hartford Foundation.
