NYU to Host Roundtable Discussion on Climate Ethics—Oct. 28

New York University will host “Climate Ethics,” a roundtable discussion that will consider the emerging area of ethics and climate change, on Thursday, October 28, 4:30 p.m. at 20 Cooper Square, 5th Floor (on Bowery at 5th St.). The event is free and open to the public. Subways: 6 (Astor Place), R (8th Street). For more information call 212.992.7999.

The discussion will cover a range of topics in the area of climate ethics: human rights, international justice, intergenerational ethics, individual responsibility, climate economics, and the ethics of geoengineering.

Participants include: Dale Jamieson, a professor in the Departments of Environmental Studies and Philosophy at NYU; Simon Caney, a professor in Political Theory and Tutorial Fellow in Politics at Oxford University; Stephen Gardiner, an associate professor of Philosophy at the University of Washington; and Henry Shue, a senior research fellow at Oxford University’s Centre for International Studies. Richard Stewart, the John Edward Sexton Professor of Law at NYU School of Law and director of its Center for Environmental and Land Use Law, will moderate the session.

The discussion marks the launch of Climate Ethics: Essential Readings (Oxford), a volume co-edited by Jamieson, Gardiner, Caney, and Shue.
