NYU to Present 32 Papers on Global Public Health at APHA Annual Meeting in Denver

The work of New York University-affiliated students and researchers on public health will constitute a significant presence at the American Public Health Association’s 2010 Annual Meeting, making 32 research presentations at the November 8 gathering in Denver, Colorado.

 The presenters will deliver papers on such topics as promotion of diabetes prevention in South Asian and Korean communities; disparities in preventive dental care for pregnant women; health effects of traditional Chinese medicine; intimate partner violence; HIV transmission among those who work in mobile occupations; medical care of detained immigrants; health effects of particulate matter components; child health in distressed cities.

The 32 presentations reflect global health research from across a broad range of NYU’s schools and colleges, including the Department of Nutrition, Food Studies and Public Health at the Steinhardt School of Culture, Education and Human Development; the Master’s Program in Global Public Health; the School of Medicine; the College of Dentistry; the College of Nursing; and the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service.

NYU students, faculty, alumni and staff who attend the APHA Annual Meeting are invited to attend a special public health reception there sponsored by NYU Executive Vice President for Health Robert Berne. The reception will be from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in Room 304 in the Colorado Convention Center, where the annual meeting will be conducted.

 The deadline to RSVP for the reception is October 4.
