NYU College Of Nursing Professor Joyce K. Anastasi Appointed to National Institutes of Health (NIH) Permanent Study Section

The New York University College of Nursing is pleased to announce the appointment of Joyce K. Anastasi, Independence Foundation Professor of Nursing and Founding Director of the Division of Special Studies in Symptom Management, to the NIH permanent study section. Dr. Anastasi will serve as a member of the Nursing Science: Adults and Older Adults Study Section (NSAA), Center for Scientific Review, for the term beginning July 1, 2010 and ending June 30, 2014.

“Dr. Anastasi is one of the country’s leading nurse scientists in the area of symptom management for individuals living with chronic conditions,” says Terry Fulmer, Dean NYU College of Nursing. “Her appointment to the Nursing Science: Adults and Older Adults Study Section (NSAA), Center for Scientific Review further validates the caliber of talent found at the NYU College of Nursing.”

Dr. Anastasi has designed, led and served as principal investigator for numerous pioneering research projects funded by the NIH. She has extensively authored articles on symptom management and integrative medicine and has spearheaded three federally-funded nursing subspecialty graduate programs. The latest program is titled, Herbs, Nutraceuticals, and Supplements (HNS) which focuses on educating nurses and other healthcare professionals on this growing area of healthcare. The HNS is the first graduate nursing program in the United States to have such a focus.
