Dr. Terry Fulmer Presented Keynote Address at UCLA College of Nursing’s 2010 Graduation

On Saturday June 12, 2010, Terry Fulmer, Dean of NYU College of Nursing was the Keynote speaker at the UCLA School of Nursing’s graduation ceremony. Dean Fulmer addressed 240 students, proud families and friends. For 61 years, the UCLA School of Nursing has been educating nurses to care for patients in a variety of settings and specialties“These graduates are the leaders of tomorrow and the future of healthcare; I, along with the NYU College of Nursing, know they will exceed our expectations,” said Terry Fulmer, Dean of the NYU College of Nursing.

In 1949, The Regents of UCLA authorized the School of Nursing to become one of the professional schools of the UCLA Center for the Health Sciences. This action paved the way for the development of an undergraduate basic program in nursing leading to the Bachelor of Science degree, and made possible the establishment of a graduate program leading to the Master of Science degree. UCLA School of Nursing’s program is fully accredited, often ranking as one of the top 10 nursing programs in the United States.

Terry Fulmer, PhD, RN, FAAN, is The Erline Perkins McGriff Professor and Dean of the College of Nursing at New York University. She received her bachelor’s degree from Skidmore College, her master’s and doctoral degrees from Boston College and her Geriatric Nurse Practitioner Post-Master’s Certificate from New York University. She has previously held academic appointments at Boston College, the Harvard Medical School Division on Aging, Yale University and Columbia University. Dr. Fulmer joined the faculty of New York University in 1995 and is currently a member of the Executive Committee for the new Medical School curriculum and also serves as an attending in nursing at the NY Langone Medical Center.

Dr. Fulmer is a co-director of the John A. Hartford Foundation Institute for Geriatric Nursing, and co-director of the Consortium of New York Geriatric Education Centers at New York University. She has also served on previous panels with the Institute of Medicine, including Violence in Families: Understanding Prevention and Treatment (1998); Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation in an Aging America (2003); and Retooling for an Aging America: Building the Heath Care Workforce (2007-2008).
