College Students to Develop Computer Programs During “Hackathon”
HackNY.org is a non-profit that connects New York City students with local startups through a summer internship program and aims to build a community among the next generation of hackers in New York City.

College students will race to create computer programs at the inaugural, 24-hour “Hackathon,” April 2 and 3 (7 p.m.-7 p.m.) at New York University’s Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences (251 Mercer Street [at Mercer and West 4th Streets], 13th Floor Lounge [enter on Gould Plaza at West 4th and Greene Streets]).

The 24-hour event will bring more than 100 students from 20 different New York-area universities to work with datasets and technologies from the hottest NYC startups—including Foursquare, 10gen, Aviary, Chartbeat, and Hot Potato—at NYU's Courant Institute. Startups will introduce and demo their technologies; students will then have 24 hours to develop their own products and demos. Final student demos and awards will be presented on Saturday, April 3, 5-7 p.m. For a complete schedule of sessions, click here.

The free event is open to current undergraduate and graduate students. Valid college or university ID required for entry. RSVP by emailing springhack@hackny.org and include full name, name of college or university, class year, and major or discipline of study. For more information, click here.

Reporters wishing to attend must RSVP to James Devitt, NYU’s Office of Public Affairs, at 212.998.6808 or james.devitt@nyu.edu.

The event is co-sponsored by the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, the Association for Computing Machinery chapters of NYU and Columbia University, the Application Development Initiative (ADI) at Columbia, tech@NYU, and HackNY.org. Other sponsors and supporters include Yahoo Developer Network, Palantir, Hunch.com, and Buzzfeed.com.
