Tisch Asia Marks First 3D Film Shoot at NYU

March 25, 2010

On Friday, March 12, NYU Tisch Asia’s Graduate Film program celebrated a momentous day when the first stereoscopic 3D film-shoot on Tisch Asia’s three-year old campus took place.  It was also the first in the history of NYU and the Tisch School of the Arts.

The shoot was for the trailer for 3rd year MFA student Basil Mironer’s first feature, Black Echo.  Local action star Sunny Pang and actress Amanda Klein from Universal Studios Singapore were also featured.  The 3D equipment, comprising 3D Mirror Rig with two RED cameras, was provided by Widescreen-Revolutions.

In addition, students built realistic looking tunnels utilizing plywood, metal, and cement which were then covered in dirt and roots. The end result, says Mironer, will be sure to terrify audiences as they experience fear and claustrophobia underground in 3D.

The screenplay is being written by well known Singaporean screenwriter Ken Kwek and MFA writing candidate Garrett Lander.  In the next year, the producing team, headed by 3rd year MFA student Alice Ho, will be talking with investors to help fund the film.
