NYU Event: Diplomats, Legal Experts Discuss “The United States and the International Criminal Court” Wednesday, March 24, 6:00 pm at NYU Center for Global Affairs

WHAT:  The International Criminal Court (ICC), governed by the Rome Statute, is the only permanent international court established with the aim of prosecuting individuals for the most serious crimes of genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes. The Obama administration has signaled an era of international re-engagement, including a new approach of the US towards the ICC.

"The United States and the International Criminal Court" presents a panel of diplomats and legal experts to discuss the latest developments in the relationship between the ICC and the United States. The event is organized by the Permanent Mission of Slovakia to the United Nations and the NYU Center of Global Affairs at the New York University School of Continuing and Professional Studies.

WHO:  The participants will be:

§  Christian Wenaweser, president , Assembly of States Parties to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court; permanent representative of Liechtenstein to the United Nations

§  Stephen J. Rapp, ambassador-at-large for War Crimes Issues, U.S. State Department

§  John Washburn, convener, The American NGO Coalition for the International Criminal Court

§  William R. Pace, convener, Coalition for the International Criminal Court

§  Jennifer Trahan, assistant clinical professor of Global Affairs, NYU Center for Global Affairs; moderator

Miloš Koterec, permanent representative of Slovakia to the United Nations, will make opening remarks.
