NYU and Euroamerica Foundation Host Two-Day Conference on US-Europe Relations, Mar. 22-23

March 15, 2010
N-317, 2009-10

Speakers include former US Senator Mel Martinez; NYU economist William Easterly; and John Brademas, president emeritus, NYU

New York University’s King Juan Carlos I of Spain Center and the Euroamerica Foundation will present a two-day conference, “USA-European Union Forum: Looking Towards the Future,” on Mon., March 22 and Tues., March 23. The conference will take place at NYU’s Kimmel Center for Student Life, 60 Washington Square South (at LaGuardia Place). Subways: A, B, C, D, E, F, V (West Fourth Street). Admission is free and open to the public; guests must present valid photo identification upon arrival.

The global financial crisis will have repercussions for years to come. Recognizing that the global recession will result in a major re-structuring of both government and private industry, this conference will examine the lessons to be learned from the current crisis as well as opportunities for the US and European Union to work together in international cooperation.

Speakers include economists, government officials, policymakers, business leaders, and scholars. Among the speakers are Felipe Gonzalez, former prime minister of Spain; William Easterly, professor of economics, NYU; John Brademas, president emeritus, NYU; Honorable Richard N. Gardner, former US ambassador to Spain and Italy; and Mel Martinez, former US senator.

Following an opening ceremony with talks by Carlos Solchaga, president of the Euroamerica Foundation, and Richard Foley, vice chancellor for strategic initiatives at NYU, the conference will present special sessions on a range of topics, including multilateralism and the US, Latin America, and the EU; financial policy and the freedom of markets; towards universal health care coverage; and renewable energies as revitalizing elements in the economy.

Reporters interested in attending the conference must RSVP to Tim Farrell, NYU’s Office of Public Affairs, at 212.998.6797 or tim.farrell@nyu.edu. For a full itinerary of events, download a PDF here.
