Students, teachers, parents, and education administrators will come together on Sat., Feb. 20, 2010 for LinkEducation’s K-12 Education Expo, held at New York University’s Kimmel Center, 60 Washington Square South (at LaGuardia Place). The Expo, which runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., unites numerous free and low-cost education resources and offers participants a live, in-person opportunity to share ideas and to uncover exciting educational opportunities for K-12.  The event is free and open to the public.

This is the fourth and largest LinkEducation Expo. Previous Expos have attracted over 200 guests and included a full house of 60 participating vendors. Event co-hosts are the Department of Education’s Office for Family Engagement and Advocacy and Office for Teacher Recruitment and Quality. Past sponsors have included: ACCESS NY, CitiBank, Department of Youth and Community Development, New York Charter Schools Association, New York University, and the Rediscover Your Hearts Awards among others.

The Expo, like the LinkEducation website (, addresses a core problem for educators and parents in a big city: access to a variety of free or low-cost education resources.  If fully utilized, these resources could significantly impact test scores and high school drop-out rates in underserved areas, as well as the ability of all children to explore enrichment activities (for example in art or music).  Too often, children go without needed programs (particularly in lower-income areas) because the organizations that run them lack visibility, the programs are hard to find, or simply because in the past there was no single place to proactively seek out new education solutions that would fulfill a particular child’s needs.

Press interested in covering the event should contact Rachael Beard at and provide your name, outlet and approximate time you would like to attend
