Shakespeare to Go: “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” to be Featured at NYU Skirball Center as The Big Red Chair Family Series Continues, Feb 27

One of Shakespeare’s Most Popular Romantic Comedies to Be Staged In An Adaptation Especially for Children

Shakespeare to Go, the touring company of New York University’s Steinhardt Program in Educational Theatre, is partnering with the Skirball Center for the Performing Arts to present A Midsummer Night’s Dream, by William Shakespeare, as a part of the Skirball Center’s Big Red Chair Family Series on February 27 at 11:00 a.m. The whole family will delight in the magic of one of Shakespeare’s most popular romantic comedies in an easy to follow adaptation created especially for children.

Shakespeare to Go, founded in 2004, brings 60-minute adaptations into New York City public and private schools. The traveling troupe has 20 undergraduate and graduate student participants, all of whom perform Shakespeare’s plays throughout New York City. The troupe has toured The Taming of the Shrew, Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, As You Like It, The Tempest, and Twelfth Night to some 25 schools per year.

The performance is recommended for ages 8 and up. Shakespeare to Go will host a pre-show educational workshop starting at 10:00 a.m. Also, those in attendance are welcome to stay after the performance for a lively conversation with the actors and educators from NYU’s Program in Educational Theatre in the Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development.
