Concert for NYU Community Only Will Feature Special Guest Ryan Star

Rock singer-songwriter David Cook, who dominated digital charts before going on to set sales records soon after being crowned winner of last season’s hit reality television show American Idol, will perform at New York University’s Skirball Center for the Performing Arts May 22, 2009. The one-night only performance is part of the reigning Idol winner’s first-ever solo tour-The Declaration Tour 2009-of college campuses to promote the debut of his first self-titled album, and is only open to the NYU community.

Millions from around the country fell in love with the rock belter while watching him make other people’s songs his own week after week on American Idol. Cook won the competition handily thanks to viewers connecting with what has been called “his rich, unfettered voice and passionately intense performances.” Just one week after being named winner, Cook rewrote chart history when 11 of his songs debuted on music industry trade magazine Billboard’s Hot 100 chart-the highest amount of new entries in a single week by an artist since the Beatles in 1964.

The concert is only open to members of the NYU community-students, faculty, staff, and alumni. Tickets range from $12-$35 and will go on sale beginning Wednesday, April 15 at noon. Student tickets: $12-$20 (limited number of $12 tickets available); faculty, staff, and alumni tickets: $35. Ticket sales are limited to two per person.

A valid NYU or NYU Alumni ID is required for purchasing tickets in person at the Skirball Center’s Shagan Box Office, located at 566 LaGuardia Place (at Washington Square South), open Tuesday through Saturday noon-6pm. A valid NYU netID is required for purchasing tickets online through NYU Home. Tickets are not available for purchase by phone. Other limitations and restrictions may apply.
