Free Cessation Health Day Celebrates the 32nd Annual Great American Smoke Out

The NYU College of Nursing Faculty Practice at the NYU College of Dentistry is partnering with the Manhattan Tobacco Cessation Program (MTCP) to participate in the 32nd Annual Great American Smoke Out by providing information tables on Thursday, November 20, 2008, from 9am to 3pm in the College of Dentistry lobby and commons, 345 East 24th Street, NYC.

According to the 2007 New York Adult Tobacco Survey, 75% of smokers say they want to quit, 53% of current everyday smokers said they tried to quit.

NYUCN and MTCP staff and students will be providing information about the NYS Quitline (866-NY-QUITS), useful resources, and an interactive smoking cessation game. Prizes will be given to all who participate-and you have the opportunity to win the greatest prize of all, a better, healthier you!

In addition, the New York State Smoker’s Quitline (866-697-8487) and its Web site are available 24 hours, 7 days at www.nysmokefree.com

The MTCP is one of 19 tobacco cessation centers throughout New York State funded by the New York State Department of Health. MTCP provides assistance to health providers and organizations who want to expand and strengthen the tobacco services they offer to their patients. Its goal is have one to two million fewer smokers by 2010. Every $1 invested in New York’s comprehensive tobacco control program, saves $3 in tobacco-related health care costs.
