NYU Residence Halls Leave It "Green"

MEDIA ADVISORY

“Green Apple Move Out” Collection Drive Organized During Annual Dorm Move-Out, May 17

New York University’s Sustainability Task Force has sponsored the inaugural Green Apple Move Out collection project for NYU Residence Halls. Students moving out this spring will be able to drop off their unwanted and gently used items and non-perishable food in designated locations for collection and donation to local non-profit organizations.

“Everyone at NYU is excited about the ‘Move Out,’ as it is a win-win-win: local charities get usable items, NYU reduces its waste, and participating students are given the opportunity to do the right thing,” says Jennie Tichenor, the Move Out’s coordinator.

  • WHAT: “Green Apple Move Out” NYU residence halls collect, sort, and deliver donated items from students’ end of year move-out
  • WHERE: NYU Palladium Residence Hall, 140 East 14th Street (between 3rd and 4th Aves.)
  • WHEN: Sat., May 17, noon to 4 p.m.
  • WHO: NYU students, staff, and volunteers

Coverage is invited. Reporters should contact Christopher James, 212.998.6876 or christopher.james@nyu.edu.

The project is expected to collect at least 25,000 pounds of re-usable material and is fully funded by a NYU Sustainability Task Force Green Grant and support by NYU Recycling, ARAMARK, and Jordan Anger, an alumnus of NYU’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study.
