“Kurt Weill in Paris” - Roundtable & Performance - at NYU’s Maison Française, Nov. 14

A discussion, with musical selections, investigating the life and artistic output of Kurt Weill during his 18-month exile in Paris, will take place at La Maison Française of New York University, located at 16 Washington Mews (at University Place) on Friday, November 14, at 4 p.m. Entitled “Kurt Weill in Paris,” this special event is presented in conjunction with the U.S. premiere of Weill’s only work in French, Marie Galante, to be staged by the Opéra Français de New York (OFNY) in collaboration with the French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF). This is event is free and open to the public. For further information, call 212.998.8750.

Participants include Yves Abel, musical director of OFNY; OFNY artistic directors Jean-Philippe Clarac and Olivier Deloeuil; NYU Steinhardt School professor Brian P. Gill; and Kim Kowalke, president of the Kurt Weill Foundation for Music. They will discuss Weill’s life and music, French music in Paris during the 1930s, the literary roots of Marie Galante, and the OFNY production of that work.

Musical excerpts will be performed by Marie Galante cast members Michel Moinot and Ariana Chris.
