NYU Summer Teacher Training Program in Hindi and Urdu, July 7-16, 2008

March 12, 2008

MEDIA ALERT ATTENTION: Listings/Education/Community Affairs Editors

  • WHAT: NYU’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies offers ten-day intensive teacher training program in Hindi and Urdu this summer, supported by a STARTALK grant from the federal government. Teachers will learn latest best practices and standards in teaching Hindi and/or Urdu, and develop their own “teacher’s portfolios” with sample syllabi and lesson plans, classroom activities, and other materials.

The basic program is a continuing education, non-credit training workshop. It is based on a New York State-approved course, part of the regular curriculum of the master’s program at the NYU Steinhardt School of Culture, Education and Human Development. However, participants can apply to earn graduate or undergraduate credits from New York University. Participants receive a grant towards the non-credit tuition.

Out-of-town participants reside at a residence hall on NYU campus. Housing expenses and group breakfast and lunch are covered by the grant, with no cost to participants.

  • WHEN: Workshop takes place at New York University, from July 7-16, 2008. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until April 4, 2008, or for as long as space is available.
  • WHO SHOULD APPLY: Applicants must be fluent speakers of either Hindi or Urdu, and English, and should have at least a bachelor’s degree, although current undergraduates may apply and be accepted on a case-by-case basis.
  • CONTACT: To apply, go to website at www.scps.nyu.edu/startalk.
