On April 30, the winners of NYU Stern’s 11th Annual New Venture Competition and 6th Annual Social Venture Competition received more than $175,000 in seed money and in-kind support. After pitching their venture ideas, the three winning teams, each led by NYU students and alumni, were chosen by a panel of investors and business owners in the social enterprise and for-profit sectors.

The NYU Reynolds Program in Social Entrepreneurship and the nonprofit group Youth Venture announced the selection of NYU College of Arts and Science students Michelle Dugan and Ashley Seiver as joint recipients of the $10,000 Grand Prize Award in the 2009-2010 “Be a Changemaker” Challenge. Ms. Dugan and Ms. Seiver provided the “Best Overall Venture” among the hundreds of participating New York University undergraduates. The two honorees created “Cycles,” a bicycle-run delivery service for farmers markets located in urban areas. They plan to set up the initial phase of operation at the Union Square green market in Manhattan.

Applications are available now for the New York University Reynolds Graduate Fellowship in Social Entrepreneurship. The goal of the NYU Reynolds Program fellowship is to attract, train and encourage the next generation of social entrepreneurs. Each year the Reynolds Program offers up to 20 graduate fellowships from across all fields of study who posses the vision and passion to create pattern-breaking solutions to long-intractable social problems in sustainable and scalable ways.
