Rise up The Ranks at NYU, Join Student Government.

Gain valuable and marketable leadership experience and make important decisions that impact student life at NYU. NYU student government alumni have gone on to positions in prestigious non-profit organizations, NGOs, financial firms and in state and federal government.

Over the past few years, the SSC has made important steps in improving student life at NYU. Last year the SSC passed a University-wide smoking ban, prohibiting smoking within a given distance of all NYU building. In 2005, the SSC made headlines by banning the sale of Coca-Cola products on campus, in response to that company's well publicized mistreatment and intimidation of labor unions in Colombia, including incidents that left labor union members dead. Following NYU's lead, over 40 universities across the country enacted similar bans.

Over its long history, the SSC has consistently pushed forward iniatives to improve student life at NYU in matters related to academics, financial aid, campus services, and public safety. Last February, the SSC organized the NYU Students for Haiti Benefit Concert, in order to raise funds for the UNICEF relief fund for the earthquake in Haiti.

If you are interested in joining the SSC or student government at NYU, get involved with your school student council, or an SSC committee with interests tied to your own.
