Committees

The SSC and UCSL fulfill most of their functioning through committee work. Below is a listing of all of the committees which oversee particular student interests.

Membership limited to eleven students who are bona fide members of student organizations registered with the Student Activities Office, members of student councils, or members of the UCSL.

Committee Work

The Committee oversees the life of student organizations registered with the University’s Student Activities Office; establishes the criteria under which such student organizations are formed and operate; arbitrates disputes involving registered student organizations. The Committee also makes recommendations concerning the policies, facilities, and services administered by the Center for Student Activities, Leadership, and Service. After a review of matters within its purview, the Committee makes recommendations designed to foster the development of student organizations at the University.

Membership shall be limited to fourteen students (not including the chairperson) in accordance with the SSC/UCSL Rules. The Vice Chairperson of the UCSL shall serve as the chairperson of the
Committee. The Committee membership includes the chairperson and fourteen other students divided equally into two subcommittees according to the criteria specified by the Rules.

Committee Work

The Committee establishes the criteria under which student organizations may receive All-Square funding, allocates such funding to student organizations, and monitors the use of allocated funds.

Membership open to UCSL members and other interested students. The Committee considers all matters concerning academically-related support services and programs provided by the University to students. After a careful review of such problems and issues, the Committee makes recommendations to the UCSL concerning policy, services, and short/long-range plans.

Committee Work

Designed as a trouble-shooting committee, it handles (but is not limited to) such topics as Bobst Library, student/faculty relations, registration, classroom facilities, computer services, the academic calendar, etc.

Membership open to UCSL members and other interested students. The Committee may consider issues concerning the relationship between current students and alumni.

Committee Work

In addition, at the invitation of the Alumni Association, members of the Committee shall regularly attend and participate in meetings of the Alumni Association's Alumni/Student Relations Committee.

Membership consists of the presidents of the undergraduate student councils (or a designated representative of each president) and any interested undergraduate Student Senators. The Committee considers all matters that relate to the academic and extracurricular life of students, enrolled in the undergraduate divisions of the University, that affect them as a distinct and identifiable entity within the University, without regard to School affiliation. The Committee acts as a liaison among the various undergraduate School student councils for the purpose of exchanging and disseminating information of concern to the undergraduate population.

Committee Work

At the direction of the SSC or UCSL, the Committee coordinates All-University undergraduate programming endorsed by the several undergraduate School student councils. When appropriate, the Committee works in conjunction with other UCSL committees on matters of mutual concern and responsibility. After a review of matters within its purview, the Committee makes recommendations to the UCSL.

Membership consists of the presidents of the graduate school councils across campus, though other interested students may join upon approval of the Executive Committee. The Committee considers all matters relating to the academic and extracurricular life of students enrolled in the graduate and professional schools of the University. The Committee also serves as an advocate to the UCSL for such students on issues which affect them as a distinct and identifiable entity within the University community, without regard to school affiliation.

The Committee acts as a liaison among the various graduate and professional school student councils at the University for the purpose of exchanging and disseminating information on matters of concern to graduate and professional students.

Committee Work

The Committee considers issues pertaining to graduate and professional student life, services, and programming, such as housing, insurance coverage, social activities, etc. When appropriate, the Committee works in conjunction with other UCSL committees on matters of mutual responsibility. After a careful review of matters within its purview, the Committee makes recommendations to the UCSL concerning policy, services, and short/long-range plans.

The Committee will work closely with representatives from Information Technology Services (ITS) on all matters regarding information technology as used by students.

Membership open to all UCSL members and other interested students. The Committee is in charge of promoting the works of the University Senate, SSC and UCSL among the Student Body, and creating and distributing materials concerning Senate, including all official publications, communication between Senate and the surrounding community and policies concerning University.

Committee Work

Responsibilities will include maintaining the Student Senate Blog and Facebook Fan Page, building relations and
connections with NYU Media outlets (WSN, NYU Radio and NYU TV), creating a strong presence during Welcome Week and ensuring that overall, students are more aware of what their student representatives work toward all year.

Membership open to all UCSL members and other interested
students. The committee will have contact with students at all Study Away sites and be a liaison with administration on issues pertaining to student safety, maintaining academic standards, and other student life issues that students raise. This committee will also be looking into international student concerns and helping to bridge the initial connection between students on the Square and NYU students at the Abu Dhabi site and other interested students.

Committee Work

The Committee will facilitate communication with individual liasons at each site and compile their feedback into an annual report on the state of Study Abroad at NYU.  It may also create programs and initiatives of various sorts to improve the Study Abroad experience.

Services.

After a review of such matters, the Committee makes recommendations to the University budget which are designed to protect and promote the interests of students and student life at NYU.

The Committee considers non-academic matters relating to the general well-being andcomfort of students at NYU. After a careful review of current problems and issues, the Committee makes recommendations to the UCSL concerning policy, services, and short/long-range plans.

The Committee will work closely with representatives from The Student Health Center on any matters that may arise regarding health or health service on campus.

University Senate Committees 2012-2013

The Senate Committees are comprised of representatives from the SSC, AMC, FSC, Dean’s Council, and University Administration. They typically meet monthly. Each Committee has students senator representatives to report back to the SSC on University Senate Committee activities.


Academic Affairs

The Academic Affairs committee considers matters pertaining to New York University relations with professional and educational organizations; advises the Board of Trustees regarding honorary degrees and other special awards; prepares and presents academic year calendars.

Financial Affairs

The Financial Affairs committee considers and makes recommendations on financial and budgetary policies of the University, including those related to capital budgets, operating budgets, long-range financial planning, policies governing allocation of resources among schools, policies on tuition and salary; considers matters relating to development of University facilities.


Organization and Governance

The Organization and Governance Committee reviews organizational policies of the University and makes recommendations regarding governance


Public Affairs

The Public Affairs committee is concerned with all matters relating to Commencement and other public occasions affecting more than one school; considers matters pertaining to New York University relations with the community; annually reviews guidelines on the use of University facilities


University Judicial Board

The University Judicial Board hears and decides cases in accordance with provisions of Disciplinary Procedures
