Committee Chair, 2011-2012: Carol Sternhell
The Faculty/Student Relations Committee proposes, develops, and implements new programs to enhance faculty participation in campus life; interacts with the University Committee on Student Life (UCSL); helps to inform the faculty about opportunities on campus for faculty-student interaction.
In response to the request from the Student Senators Council, the FSC Faculty-Student Relations Committee looked into the possibility of developing a uniform system across NYU's many schools of collecting and publicizing course evaluations. Schools' policies currently vary widely. In May, the Committee presented a resolution regarding course evaluations which was approved by the Council.
The Faculty Council recommends:
- That all schools be encouraged to conduct end-of-semester evaluations of all undergraduate and graduate classes and instructors, either on paper or online.
- That this information be available to students on a familiar NYU site like Albert.
Earlier in the year, the Committee met with students and discussed student concerns regarding faculty accessibility, as well as ideas for social events and a lecture series. The Committee Chair attended the meetings of the University Committee on Student Life (UCSL) to keep informed on their current issues. The Committee also hosted a FSC/SSC Social in March at the Torch Club.
