News and Events

The search for the next university president is now underway! A Presidential Search Committee has been convened, with the AMC represented by its chair, David Vintinner. We encourage all administrators to stay informed about and engaged in this important process which will shape the future of the university. Administrators have an opportunity to express their views directly to the search committee at the staff/administrative Listening Session on Tuesday, September 30 from 2:30-3:30 PM in the Kimmel Center, Room 914.

Stay informed! Read up on major university projects.

  • A Presidential Search Committee has been formed to lead the selection of the next University president. David Vintinner, AMC Chair, is a member of the search committee. Please contact David if you have any comments.
  • The Superblock Stewardship Advisory Committee has been established to provide advice to the University and a forum for consultation on quality-of-life issues on both blocks before, during, and after construction on the superblocks. The AMC is represented on the committee by Barbara Albrecht; please contact Barbara if you have any questions or feedback.
  • A Protection of Minors Steering Committee has been established by the Provost and the Executive Vice President for Operations to advise about the safety, welfare, and protection of minors involved in events and programs at NYU. Justine Kelly-Fierro represents the AMC on the steering committee.

The AMC's Naughty Knitters have been featured by NYU Stories! We salute our hardworking Knitters, whose thousands of handmade items have warmed and comforted babies, the elderly, and military service members around the world. We congratulate Knitters founder and longtime AMC member Jennie Tichenor on her recent retirement - and are grateful she will remain actively involved.

Support benefits for commuters! The AMC recently sent a letter to several New York Congressional members to express its support of the Commuter Benefits Parity Act of 2013, which would establish permanent parity of both the parking and transit portions of the commuter benefit. A decrease in the transit portion of the commuter benefit may result in an increased tax burden for the thousands of commuters who make use of pre-tax deductions for the cost of their daily commutes. 25th Annual Retirees Luncheon

Date: Wednesday, April 24, 2013
Time: 12:00-2:00 PM
Location: The Torch Club, 18 Waverly Place

The AMC Annual Retirees' Luncheon was held on Wednesday, April 24 at the NYU Torch Club. The gathering was warm and festive, as usual. It was great to see familiar faces -- those who make the pilgrimage each year, and some making their debut as retirees. Regrets were heartfelt, as always, and many good wishes sent from afar by those who could not make it. Despite a postal fiasco, which resulted in a very late delivery of the invitations (after the date of the event!), we filled the Tap Room, with approximately 70 in attendance.

AMC Chair David Vogelsang presided over the event. Guests were greeted and gifted (a snazzy summer cooler was the take-away this year), and after schmoozing a little, sat down to a delicious buffet lunch. During his words of welcome and cheer, David took a moment to toast the 40th anniversary of the AMC and the 25th year of these luncheons. We were fortunate to have George Pozderec, who was AMC President when the very first Retirees Luncheon was held, present to say a few words as well.

Throughout the luncheon, guests were treated to classics from The American Songbook, performed by the Daan Kleijn Trio. Dan Kleijn (guitar), Jeff Dingler (double bass) and Ricky Alexander (tenor saxophone) are all NYU graduate students in jazz performance, and they did a lovely job of entertaining the group. The formalities ended with the annual raffle drawing. The lucky winners this year were Joe Diaz, who received a gift certificate for lunch at the Torch Club, and Mary Wade, who received a lunch cruise with World Yacht!

Thanks to everyone who attended, and best wishes to those who could not make it. We hope that the mailing disaster is something that will never happen again, and we look forward to seeing everyone next year!

Holiday Toy Drive

The AMC - Making Spirits Bright!

The AMC joined Government & Community Affairs in sponsoring the annual Holiday Toy Drive. The NYU community donated dozens of new toys and books that were distributed to the children of the 9th Police Precinct at a snowy holiday party on December 14. Toys were also distributed to the children of the Birch Family Services. Thank you to the NYU community for its generosity during this holiday season!
