Since 1968, NYU's Opportunities Programs (OP) have been integral to our commitment to a diverse student body. The Opportunity Programs include the Arthur O. Eve Higher Education and Opportunity Program (HEOP), Collegiate Science Technology Entry Program (CSTEP), Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP), and Building Excellence in Science and Technology Program (BEST). STEP and BEST are innovative pre-college enrichment programs for talented middle and high school students which encourage the presence of historically under-represented groups in science, technology, engineering, math (STEM careers) and licensed professions. HEOP and CSTEP serve NYU students, providing a means for traditionally under-served, low-income students to obtain admission and receive academic and financial support. Services are designed to support students’ academic success and cultivate personal and professional growth. Students accepted to HEOP and CSTEP participate in a six-week introductory non-credit academic program during the summer prior to the freshman year, and receive intensive and specialized support throughout the first year and as needed, up to graduation. The services are tailored to the individual needs of each student and include:
- Academic and personal counseling
- Financial counseling
- Mentoring
- Academic workshops and seminars
- Tutoring
