Katepalli R. Sreenivasan (Sreeni) comes to NYU from the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (Trieste, Italy) where he has been Director, and the University of Maryland, where he was Distinguished University Professor and Professor of Physics and Engineering, and Director of the Institute for Physical Science and Technology. Sreeni is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Engineering, and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Working closely with the senior leadership of NYUNY and NYUAD, Sreeni will play a significant role in the planning and development of NYU as a Global Network University.

Sreenivasan will build engineering and technology throughout NYU and its global network, including NYU-Poly.  In this capacity he will focus on the development of faculty, curriculum and research programs at NYU-Poly, NYU Abu Dhabi and NYU Shanghai, all in partnership with science throughout NYU.  He will also serve as a science/technology advisor for the NYUAD Research Institute.  An active researcher, Sreeni will continue his work in turbulence, complex fluids, cryogenic helium, and nonlinear dynamics, and is University Professor at NYU, with joint appointments in Physics and Mathematics.
