Undergraduate Curriculum Advisory Committee

The chief responsibility of the Committee is to advise the Provost on any new undergraduate programs requiring State Education Department approval (e.g., new degrees and new majors) as well as on new initiatives that may not require State approval (e.g., minors that involve courses from more than one school). The UCAC, chaired by the Senior Vice Provost for Undergraduate Academic Affairs, will undertake the necessary due-diligence, which includes determining if proposals duplicate, complement, or supplement existing programs on campus, as well as confirming that the school’s procedures for consulting with and obtaining approval from faculty and other schools and/or departments have been followed.

The UCAC principally includes standing faculty and undergraduate deans, with broad representation from schools, disciplines, and other committees on campus including the UAAC and the Academic Senate. One student from the Student Senators Council also serves on the UCAC. Although not every school is represented on the Committee, the Committee is always open to guest participants who may attend meetings when a proposal concerns their school.
