Katherine E. Fleming is Deputy Provost and also serves as the Vice Chancellor, Europe. The Deputy Provost works with the Provost and school deans to shape the University's academic programs. As Vice Chancellor, Europe she works on the University's long-term strategic planning in Europe and supports faculty and graduate research abroad, via the Provost's Global Research Initiatives, which she established in 2011. She also directs the Remarque Institute.
Dr. Fleming is also the Alexander S. Onassis Professor of Hellenic Culture and Civilization in the Department of History, and a permanent professeur associé in the Department of History at the École Normale Supérieure, Paris. She was educated at King’s College, London; Barnard College; the University of Chicago; and the University of California, Berkeley. Dr. Fleming was the Associate Director of the Remarque Institute from 2004-2010, and has also served as Director of NYU’s Center for European and Mediterranean Studies and the A.S. Onassis Program in Hellenic Studies.
