Academic Appointments

The Senior Associate Provost and Chief of Staff to the Provost provides administrative leadership and support for the Provost's initiatives and priorities by providing principal management support to the Provost and acting as liaison between the Provost's Office and other University administrative and academic units. The Senior Associate Provost and Chief of Staff oversees the administrative and day-to-day operations as well as space planning, academic compliance, and pre-award grant administration for the Office of the Provost; provides administrative oversight for the Manager of Faculty Governance; and has responsibility for the Office of Academic Appointments.

The Office of Academic Appointments administers the University’s policies governing academic appointments on behalf of the Provost and the President. Some of its specific functions include:

  • Review applications for promotion, tenure, and sabbaticals.
  • Advise the Provost and the Deans on matters pertaining to tenure rules.
  • Assist with interpretation of policies outlined in the Faculty Handbook.
  • Collaborate with Faculty Senators Council and senior university administration on periodic updates to the Faculty Handbook.
