As Assistant Vice Provost for Undergraduate Academic Affairs, Dr. Poynter’s work focuses on a number of undergraduate issues, including the development of curriculum for NYU Shanghai, cross-school all-University programs, the integration of the Global Network University, and GNU-wide teaching technology.
Before joining the Provost’s Office, Dr. Poynter served as Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs in the College of Arts and Science. He received his bachelor's degree from Georgetown University and his doctorate (in French and African American Studies) from Yale University, where he was a Whiting Fellow in the Humanities and won the Peyre Prize for outstanding dissertation in French. He is currently translating several volumes of Alexander von Humboldt's writings on his travels in the Americas, the first of which will be published by the University of Chicago Press in 2012.
