New York University's Office of Equal Opportunity (OEO) collaborates with the NYU community in promoting diversity, cultural sensitivity, and equal opportunity in academic excellence, scholarship, teaching, and service.
The OEO is responsible for advancing and monitoring the University's equal employment opportunity and affirmative action policies, procedures, and programs. It does so by making known the University's commitment to employ minority and women faculty and staff, by consulting with units on the implementation of these policies, and by carrying out utilization analyses for minority and women relative to national baseline data.
The Office is also responsible for administering the University's Non-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment Policy and Complaint Procedures for Employees. The OEO implements a consistent and uniform procedure for responding to and resolving internal discrimination complaints. Mary Signor, Executive Director for the OEO, serves as NYU’s Title IX Coordinator, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex.
The OEO is NYU's Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Coordinator, serving as a resource regarding reasonable accommodations in the workplace.
The OEO also provides guidance and training to the University community on NYU policy and other federal, state and city discrimination laws. Educational workshops and seminars on discrimination and sexual harassment are offered to the University community throughout the year.
