Tom Ellett

Tom currently serves as the Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs at New York University. During his tenure at NYU, he has had responsibility for the following areas of the University: housing administration, facilities, residence life, budget and finance, and greek life. Tom’s current responsibilities include: creation of the living/learning communities, oversight for the Faculty Affiliates (40) and Faculty in Residence (12) programs, oversight for the research and assessment office, residence life, residential judicial system, class advisory boards, and various learning initiatives within student affairs.

Prior to NYU, Tom served as the Director of Residence Life at Syracuse University for five years. His main focus at SU was assessment, creation of learning communities and organizational restructuring. Previous to working at Syracuse University, Tom served in four residence life positions at Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.

Tom received his Ph.D. from Fordham University this past May in Education, Leadership, Administration and Policy program. His dissertation topic focused on the impact of explorations floors at NYU on student’s experience at college. He also holds an M.F.A. from Catholic University of America in Directing of Theatre and a B.A. in English from Fordham University. He is enrolled in a certificate program for Personal Life Coaching which will be completed by the Fall 2006. He, his wife (Gladys) and two children live in the residence halls at NYU.
