Office of Public Safety

The NYU Department of Public Safety provides emergency help and information 24 hours a day. If you need assistance, call 212-998-2222 or approach a Public Safety officer on patrol around NYU.  Public Safety has radio-equipped patrol vehicles that cruise the campus 24/7.  Look for the vehicles with the amber light on top and “New York University Public Safety” printed on the doors.  When you or a student are in trouble, or if you witness a crime or experience an emergency on campus, immediately dial 911 and then Public Safety at 212-998-2222.


Wellness Exchange

The Wellness Exchange is students’ key to accessing NYU's extensive health and mental health resources.  A central feature common to all these services is a private, 24/7 hotline that puts students in touch with professionals who can help them.  The Wellness Exchange is available for students who just need to talk – for whatever reason.  Faculty and staff concerned about students can access the Wellness Exchange anytime at 212-443-9999 or at wellness.exchange@nyu.edu.


Wellness and Crisis Services at the Student Health Center

Students can speak with counselors in person (no appointment necessary) by coming to counseling walk-in hours at the Student Health Center.  Over 40 hours of walk-in services are available per week; specific hours are posted at www.nyu.edu/999/counseling.  Students can also write a private email to a counselor at wellness.exchange@nyu.edu.  Crisis Response Counselors (on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week) are also available to assess urgent mental health concerns (including sexual assault), as well as to coordinate access to emergency care. 


The Student Health Center

The Student Health Center (SHC) provides comprehensive medical services, including a number of specialties: Primary Care, Women’s Health Care, Men’s Health Care, HIV Testing and Counseling, Dermatology, Endocrinology, Nutrition, Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, Care Management Specialist and Financial Counseling, Pharmacy and Radiology.

SHC offers routine and urgent primary care and women’s health services at either no cost or very reduced costs to all matriculated students regardless of insurance coverage. The SHC also provides wellness, short-term counseling and crisis services free of charge.  No student will be denied services (link to sample of services chart) Also, SHC’s acute care services allow students to see a trained health care professional and receive an immediate assessment.  Students needing acute care for injuries or illness will be given priority. 

For non-urgent health concerns, students can make an appointment by calling 212-443-1000 or online through the "NYU Life" channel of NYU Home.

The Student Resource Center can provide all kinds of information and answers to questions big and small.  Need directions to a University facility or its office hours? Want to get involved or take advantage of NYU events?  What about a phone number or a website address for your school, department, or professor?  Need information on student health, career development, athletics, or community service?  The Student Resource Center is the ultimate source of information for students.  Call our Info Line at 212-998-4411, Monday-Thursday, 9am-9pm, and Friday, 9am-5pm.  Or submit your question online at www.nyu.edu/src for a response within one business day.


Office of Residential Life and Housing Services

The Office of Residential Life and Housing Services staff resides in each residence hall and provides a variety of services and support.  In addition to addressing academic, personal, and social issues, staff members are on call 24/7 to provide assistance in emergency situations.  To reach a member of the Residential Education staff between the hours of 9am-5pm, stop by the office in the appropriate hall or dial 212.998.4311.  For after hours or emergency assistance, contact Public Safety at 212-998-2222.


The Moses Center for Students with Disabilities

The Henry and Lucy Moses Center for Students with Disabilities works with students and faculty to facilitate equal access for students with disabilities at NYU.  The Moses Center provides comprehensive services and programs for undergraduate and graduate students with hearing and visual impairments, mobility impairments, learning disabilities and attention deficit disorders, chronic illnesses, and psychological impairments.

The Office of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Student Services at NYU offers a breadth of activities, student services, and resources to the LGBT and ally populations of the University, to those questioning their gender or sexual identity, and to anyone in the University community wanting to know more about LGBT issues.  The Office of LGBT Student Services is dedicated to maintaining a safe, supportive, and enriching environment for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning students and responding to the needs of those students with support, services, programs, advocacy, and education.
